LOCATIONS: Lair O' the Bear Park-12 mi. west of Morrison, CO. Roxborough State Park, Red Rocks Park. 8am-4pm each day.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Study of basic oil painting materials and methods to further understanding of representational painting concepts through location work, employing plein-air studies that observe the landscape to master traditional compositional principles. Basic painting fundamentals are emphasized: Drawing, Composition and Design, Value and Color.

COURSE GOALS:
• Understand the basics of observational painting in oils, using the landscape as subject matter.
• Understand how to mix and apply oil paints, employ color theory to emphasize pictorial composition, as well as become aware of the basic materials and methods used historically by artists with similar representational aims.
• Be aware of how theoretical issues of color, keys, atmosphere, light and shadow patterns, local color, indirect and direct painting approaches relate to the expressive aims of their own compositions.
